ChatGPT import: bring chats and memories over seamlessly

Switching from ChatGPT to 9brains used to mean starting over. You can now import your entire ChatGPT history, conversations, memories and file attachments land directly in your 9brains account.

  1. Request your data export in the ChatGPT settings (menu → Settings → Data export)
  2. You receive a ZIP file by email
  3. Upload the ZIP under Settings → Personal settings → Data import
  4. 9brains processes the export in the background, you can keep working in the meantime

Progress is displayed live. For a typical export with a few hundred conversations, the import takes only a few minutes.

  • All conversations including title, timestamps and message history
  • File attachments such as PDFs, images and documents, they land automatically in your workspace and are immediately usable by the AI
  • DALL-E images from your ChatGPT chats are imported as image attachments
  • Code interpreter results and tool usage are embedded as formatted blocks inside the respective message
  • Canvas documents are stored as files in your workspace

ChatGPT stores so-called “memories”, short facts that the system has remembered about you (for example “User works in logistics”). After the import finishes, you can review these entries one by one and decide which ones to bring into your 9brains memory. The original texts are preserved unchanged.

Imported conversations carry a subtle ChatGPT label in the sidebar, so you can see at a glance which chats come from your previous account. You can continue these chats as usual.

Every import can be fully undone with a single click in the import history. This removes all imported conversations and attachments without touching your existing 9brains chats.

  • The upload limit is 100 MB, which is enough for the vast majority of exports
  • If your export is larger, please get in touch with support
  • Only one import can run per user at a time
  • If the same export is uploaded a second time, existing conversations are automatically skipped (no duplicates)

For everyone who has been using ChatGPT and wants to switch to 9brains without losing their previous work.
