Data sources now available for all Business and Max customers

The Data sources feature is available right away for all workspaces with a Business or Max license. Previously the function was enabled only for selected customers, now every eligible administrator can connect external file stores.

Data sources connect external file stores to 9brains. Documents are indexed automatically and become available to the AI assistant as searchable knowledge, including source references back to the original files. This approach is also known as RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation): the assistant first searches your documents and then formulates a well-founded answer based on the content it finds.

  • OneDrive: personal data source. Every user can connect their own OneDrive. The files are searchable only by the respective user.
  • SharePoint: workspace data source. Administrators connect SharePoint document libraries, which then become available to all users in the workspace.
  • Coming soon: Windows file servers and NAS systems (via WebDAV) as well as S3-compatible storage

OneDrive and SharePoint are connected via webhook, file changes are typically detected immediately and processed via delta sync. Additionally, a full reconciliation runs every 60 minutes.

The available quota depends on your license:

  • Business: 1 GB per license, shared across the workspace
  • Max: 10 GB per license, shared across the workspace

You can check current usage at any time under Settings → Data sources. If you would like to connect larger data sources, get in touch with us and we will unlock additional quota.

  1. Open Settings → Data sources
  2. Click ”+ Data source”
  3. Pick OneDrive or SharePoint and follow the wizard

You will find detailed instructions under Data sources.
