Zero Data Retention approved for all Google models
Google has confirmed Zero Data Retention (ZDR) for all Vertex AI models on the 9brains platform. This applies to both the chat models (Gemini 2.5 Pro, Gemini 2.5 Flash, Gemini 3.1 Pro, Gemini 3 Flash) and the image models (Gemini 3 Pro Image, Imagen 4 Ultra).
What does Zero Data Retention mean?
Section titled “What does Zero Data Retention mean?”Zero Data Retention means that your data is deleted by Google immediately after processing. No temporary storage takes place, neither for logging nor for abuse detection. Your inputs and the generated responses do not leave working memory.
What changes?
Section titled “What changes?”Google models with EU server location (Gemini 2.5 Pro, Gemini 2.5 Flash, Imagen 4 Ultra) were already available for GDPR-compliant use. With the ZDR approval, the highest level of data protection is now added:
- No training with your data (already guaranteed)
- No storage, not even temporarily (new)
- EU server location, processed in the Netherlands (unchanged)
The global Google models (Gemini 3.1 Pro, Gemini 3 Flash) also benefit from ZDR, but because their server location is not guaranteed they remain unavailable for GDPR-compliant use.
Do I need to change anything?
Section titled “Do I need to change anything?”No. The change takes effect automatically for all Google models. The current data protection status of all models can be found under Data protection & data sovereignty.
